How was business in 2022 and what do you expect for the industry in 2023?
While supply chain issues and inventories are correcting themselves, the consumer market has slowed internationally, which started in the fall of 2022 due to global recession and inflation concerns.

The surge in demand we saw during COVID-19 for laptops, notebooks, and mobile phones has stabilized and slowed back down to pre-pandemic levels. Overall, we still saw growth in 2022 and are considering it to be a good year despite the challenges.

2023 may prove challenging for semiconductors due to the global economic, geopolitical situation, and inventory adjustment. But we are still expecting some growth, especially from semiconductors that support the automotive industry, high-performance computing/servers, and wireless communication.

Will you be launching new products or services in 2023?
We launched some very exciting products in 2022 but we’re also looking forward to the innovative products we have lined up for 2023. Look for news regarding our new products for power semiconductors, such as Durafuse™ HT, a high-temperature lead-free material, and QuickSinter™ series, which includes silver and copper sintering materials.

Have supply chain shortages caused problems for your company in 2022 and what have you done to reduce these issues in 2023?
We have expanded our resources and found qualified secondary sources for raw materials while increasing our capacity globally to deal with supply chain shortages. Our new manufacturing facility in Penang, Malaysia will help support our customers’ product needs in this critical region. Concurrently, we have expanded our manufacturing footprints in the U.S., India, South Korea, Singapore, India, and China to meet demand across the globe.

Are you able to hire enough qualified employees? What could the industry do to develop a larger pool of skilled workers?
Our STEM programs, school partnerships, and award-winning internship and leading apprenticeship programs have created a pipeline of skilled workers prepared to make immediate contributions in their chosen fields. Some leading industry organizations have worked with government and employers to develop programs, and we think such programs will help develop talent for the industry.

Has your company travel returned to pre-pandemic levels or are you still limiting travel to customer sites or industry conferences in 2023?
At Indium Corporation we have a saying, "From One Engineer to Another®." Serving customers and troubleshooting on the line have always been our priorities, while ensuring everyone’s safety during the pandemic. We have resumed travel and look forward to visiting customers and attending conferences more frequently as the industry returns to normalcy.
