VIEWPOINT 2023: Mohan Iyer, Vice President and General Manager of Semiconductor, Thermo Fisher
Over the last year, the semiconductor industry has seen challenges and opportunities with continued chip shortages, increased consumer demand, economic and geopolitical shifts, government investments and more.

In response, semiconductor manufacturers across the world are formulating strategies to meet the needs of this evolving landscape in 2023. Technology will play a key role in helping manufacturers developing and executing effective strategies, and I anticipate more applied AI and industrialized machine learning technologies being used to accelerate product development and increase workforce productivity.

Many industries have already begun to benefit from these technologies and as chip manufacturing ramps up, these technologies will be important for semiconductor designers and manufacturers looking to advance product development and ramp up manufacturing.

Similarly, the use of automation will only continue to expand. Where many of today’s semiconductor labs utilize a single operator per tool to process the increasing volume of samples, newer automation solutions are enabling a single operator to manage multiple tools. This delivers significant productivity gains as labs can process more samples faster and more efficiently. Automation also empowers less experienced technicians to learn and operate the instruments more easily, while delivering high quality results.

While many of our tools already integrate these technologies, we continue to enhance our tools capabilities and work with our customers to deliver innovation to meet their needs for 2023 and beyond.
