The pandemic and the semiconductor shortage are probably at the base of the greatest turning point our industry has gone through in many decades. It has forced our leaders and scientists to take a step back and assess the global market to put strategies in place with a goal of ensuring a more self-sufficient and trusted supply chain for the semiconductors industry.

I strongly believe the American Chip Act has set the tone for years to come in the semiconductors industry and Canada is a strong partner, in all points complementary to the activities taking place in the United States.

In the tail end of the pandemic, our hometown was designated as one of the first two Innovation Zones in our province. Known as Technum Quebec, supporting digital technologies and semiconductor market, this innovation zone has the ability to bring projects and solutions to the actual economic and supply chain situations in our industry and help companies strive through the current tough times.

Workforce, like anywhere in Canada and North America is a challenge that our industry is facing, and we are working on different fronts with our partners and ecosystem, trying to find ways to bring more students into science programs at a young age.

Building links with professional colleges and universities to design specific programs lined up with the needs of our industry with mandatory internships to have a feel for a career before engaging in it is a key to success in our experience. We hope that those efforts will yield into a strong workforce already committed to our industry when coming out of schools.

As for C2MI, the year 2022 was a culminating one in many ways; the confirmation of investments to broaden our offering was announced early 2022. The expansion of 3000 sq. meters in our clean room facility will soon be underway. Ensuring us to have all the research and development capabilities up and ready to address emerging disruptive markets such has quantum fabrication and BioMEMS that are soon to become game changer in their respective fields.

We were also recently granted the Innovation, Excellence and Wellness Gold Award by Excellence Canada. The Canada Awards for Excellence program involves meeting and exceeding rigorous standards and requirements, demonstration of continual improvement, measurement of progress, and verification.

I am very grateful and proud of C2MI's team, they have done a tremendous job despite less than perfect conditions where the work-life balance was still a challenge at the tail end of this pandemic. We see 2023 as the light at the end of the tunnel and we have very invigorating projects that will make a difference in the semiconductor industry.
