Finding Opportunity in Both China and the U.S.

After weathering a decline caused by the memory market slowdown, and an uncertain geopolitical climate in 2019, market analysts are cautiously optimistic about a 2020 rebound, fueled by technology developments in 5G and artificial intelligence. However, heightened trade war tensions have many U.S. semiconductor equipment suppliers concerned about doing business in China in the coming year.

As a photoresist strip, wet clean and wafer-level packaging electroplating systems supplier headquartered in Fremont, California, and with a wholly owned subsidiary based in Shanghai, we see growth opportunities in both China and the U.S. About 75% of our expected $105 million in sales for 2019 is from indigenous China players (YMTC, HLMC, SMIC and an unnamed emerging DRAM player), with the remainder from SK Hynix, the number 2 global DRAM player. We plan for continued growth from our current customer base to drive incremental opportunities in 2020 and beyond.

Additionally, as a major part of our growth strategy, we are also looking to expand our business to additional customers outside of China. While the China semiconductor production equipment (SPE) market is expected to grow from about 20% to up to 40% of the total industry spending, we also see significant opportunity to deliver ACM technology to additional major customers in other countries that will still account for 60% of the SPE market. To that end, we have recently added two new senior sales managers with a focus for near term market expansion in the U.S. and Taiwan markets.

We expect our strategy to help solidify ACM's position as a key local player in China, while funding the continued development of our world-class capabilities. We believe being listed on both the U.S. and China stock markets will allow us to scale our business in mainland China, and also open up broader opportunities in the U.S., Taiwan, Korea, Japan and Europe. A key element of our 2020 growth strategy is to be close to customers, world-class engineering talent, our supply chain and to our investors.
