Our ambition is to become an even more relevant partner -- locally and internationally

The digital and nanotech industries continue to go through a very rapid technological evolution. In response, 2017 saw us lay the foundation of several new research tracks in which imec's combined software and hardware expertise is poised to make a difference. Think of breakthroughs in artificial intelligence -- including machine learning -- and quantum computing.

In 2018, as well, we want to continue to adapt ourselves to a rapidly-changing world -- by becoming an even more relevant partner, locally and internationally. That's why we continuously adjust and strengthen our technology portfolio; and why we are expanding our range of business and collaboration models. After all, that will allow us to assist companies even better when it comes to product and process innovation.

A nice example is the imec.xpand early-stage innovation fund that is really getting up to speed. Imec.xpand allows us to invest in innovative, early-stage ideas and projects, grown both inside and outside of imec; projects in which imec's knowledge, expertise and infrastructure is the key success factor.

During the last call for ideas, we collected more than 70 proposals for potential ventures. A number of those ideas are now going through the various imec.xp and development stages; ideas that you will undoubtedly hear more about in the course of 2018!
