Kulicke & Soffa has always been investing in R&D to stay ahead of our competition, and 2016 is no difference. Over the last 2 years, we have been investing heavily in Advanced Packaging technology apart from the investment in our core businesses. In 2013, we spent more than US$60 million in R&D and in 2014 over US$80 million. More than 30% of these investments are on Advanced Packaging technology.

We have also acquired Assembléon to expand our Advanced Packaging solution portfolio and diversify into Surface Mount Technology (SMT) business. We see the Advanced Packaging and Advanced SMT technologies merging, the synergy between our core business and Advanced SMT and we will continue to explore and invest in these areas.

K&S has been introducing new products and solutions in major trade shows such as the SEMICON shows over the past years and we do not see any change in 2016. We will continue to enhance and broaden on our current portfolio to better serve our customers and staying ahead of our competitions.

The expected slowdown in 2016 came early as the inventory level in the industry rises and we believe the industry is coming near to the end of the inventory corrections. There are some positive indications from the market and we are expecting the industry to start growing again in the coming quarters, heading into 2016.
