VIEWPOINT 2023: Daniel Schultze, General Manager, Tresky Automation
Daniel Schultze, General Manager, Tresky Automation
How was business in 2022 and what do you expect for the industry in 2023?
All in all, it was a good year in 2022. Of course, the global challenges also had an impact on our business, causing a slight fluctuation throughout the year. But we are very satisfied and expect a similarly successful year in 2023.

Will you be launching new products or services in 2023?
Yes, of course we will continue to develop our existing products and adapt them to the needs of our customers. But we are also developing new products that we will introduce in 2023. But we do not want to reveal more yet.

Have supply chain shortages caused problems for your company in 2022 and what have you done to reduce these issues in 2023?
The supply problems with electronic components, but also with raw materials such as aluminium and steel were noticeable for us. Like all other industrial companies, we suffered from the general negative market developments. Parts important to us were difficult to obtain or arrived late. In part, we benefited from our well-stocked warehouses, which helped us overcome supply bottlenecks. But adjustments in strategic purchasing were also helpful.

Are you able to hire enough qualified employees?
The shortage of skilled workers for medium-sized companies is one of the greatest current challenges. In my opinion, politics is called upon to adapt the education system in Germany to the globalised market and to make it more sustainable.

Furthermore, the German labour market must be opened up to skilled workers from abroad and made more attractive. Our company now employs a highly trained Ukrainian programmer who only came to Germany because of the war. We must organise the influx of skilled workers in our country better and not be dependent on chance.

Has your company travel returned to pre-pandemic levels or are you still limiting travel to customer sites or industry conferences in 2023?
Travel will not reach pre-pandemic levels. Many client appointments take place digitally.
