Optomec Showcases Aerosol Jet System
Aerosol Jet System for Photovoltaics/Printed Electronics at SEMICON West/Intersolar
Aerosol Jet Systems will be featured in Intersolar area, Booth # 9361 July 13 – 15th
Albuquerque, New Mexico: Optomec announced today that they will showcase their Aerosol Jet Deposition system at Intersolar/SEMICON West at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, California. Optomec’s Aerosol Jet system is a printed electronics solution that is used in the development and production of next generation electronic devices such as high efficiency solar cells, semiconductor packaging, flat panel displays, Flex Circuits, embedded passives, and even printed biologics. In addition to exhibiting at Intersolar, Aerosol Jet Product Manager, Mike O’Reilly will give a presentation titled “Aerosol Jet Printing as an Alternative to Wire Bond and TSV Technology for 3D Interconnect Applications” at the IMAPS Advanced Interconnect Technologies conference, co-located with Intersolar. Mr. O’Reilly’s presentation will be given at the San Francisco Marriott Hotel on Wednesday July 14th.
Recently, Fraunhofer ISE has proven that Aerosol Jet deposition systems can increase the efficiencies of silicon solar cells by producing narrower, higher integrity collector lines with reduced shadowing effects. The Aerosol Jet technology enables fine feature, non-contact printing of advanced photovoltaic materials onto non-planar surfaces without the need for masks or resists. Because of the non-contact nature of Aerosol Jet technology, the system can print on thinner silicon wafers, providing a higher manufacturing yield compared to wafer breakage caused by contact screen printing. In addition to functional gains, Aerosol Jet is also projected to dramatically reduce the overall Cost of Ownership versus screen printing. For volume production applications, Optomec has developed a high throughput 40-nozzle Aerosol Jet deposition head that prints a solar cell every 2.5 to 3 seconds. Aerosol Jet systems have been sold to a number of leading industrial solar laboratories and cell manufacturers. Currently, the systems are being used to develop next generation high efficiency, cost effective solar manufacturing processes. Aerosol Jet systems are also being used in the process development of selective emitters, new low cost materials for conductors, dopants, etchants and more.
