MacDermid Forms Photovoltaics (Solar Cell) Business

MacDermid, Incorporated has announced the formation of Photovoltaics, a new business unit. This new group lead by Don Cullen is being formed to coordinate MacDermid’s global efforts towards this important industry. MacDermid currently has a presence in the photovoltaic sector with product offerings ranging from wafer cleaning, and conductor metallization to screen-printing and anti-reflective technologies.

Mr. Cullen, a veteran of the printed circuit board industry and a 20 year MacDermid employee, has been selected to lead MacDermid’s Photovoltaics group.

Announcing the new business, Cullen commented “As the industry evolves into more efficient cells, there is a demand for new metallization and imaging techniques. These are MacDermid’s core competencies. Use of chemical processes allow photovoltaics manufacturers an elegant path to significant reductions in $/watt.”

Core Photovoltaics group staffing is already in place. Cullen remarked, “Our new team will combine all our resources into one business. We are adding more personnel in R&D, applications, and regional support. With appropriate staffing, reliance on our strong worldwide service infrastructure, and proactive innovation with our industry partners, we expect to provide comprehensive support to the photovoltaics manufacturing base. Our group provides the central point of contact.”

MacDermid Inc. is a leading global provider of high value-added specialty chemicals and technical services. MacDermid serves the metals and plastics finishing, electronics, photovoltaics, oil production and drilling, and graphics arts markets. Established in 1922, MacDermid employs over 2,400 people in operating facilities in over 20 countries.

The Photovoltaic Group will fall under MacDermid’s Advance Surface Finishing Segment. The group will be headquartered in Waterbury, CT, USA.
