From an industry standpoint, our customers are facing challenging problems, especially issues like test access problems. Our customers are feeling the pressure and asking us for solutions to help reduce their scrap piles, from mobile boards to all sorts of sensor boards.

The key here is to take a deeper dive, going beyond the standard board and functional test for the PCBAs and trying to better understand our customers' problems to see how we can overcome particular challenges to improve product quality while reducing the cost of test. That's our key differentiator.

The key issues being really driven by loss of test access and increasingly faster and higher-powered components. For example, in 2015, we saw the adoption of DDR4, LPDDR4 pick up significantly and there was a concurrent need to ensure good test coverage; HDMI boards were another area of interest which caused us to further push the test capabilities of our x1149 boundary scan analyzer.

Moving forward, the need for more of such embedded test capabilities will grow as the industry continues to take up even newer technology for NAND Flash, embedded multimedia controllers (eMMCs), multi-core processors etc. From a technology standpoint, this is really exciting for our x1149 boundary scan team to bring more test applications to the customers in the near future, from the initial design for test stages to volume production.

We continue to invest in lean manufacturing as customers are asking for more automated board test capabilities. Again, each customer or industry has significantly different needs for automation, so they can certainly look forward to Keysight bringing our next generation inline in-circuit test solutions to them in 2016. Apart from ensuring our industry-standard in-circuit testers are green and ROHS compliant, we will be looking at how to further enable Industry 4.0 capabilities on our in-circuit and functional testers for our customers.

Enhancing user experience for both our i1000 and i3070 in-circuit test solutions remains our priority, so moving forward, our stalwart users of the i3070 can see more enhancements in addition to the latest 09.00 software featuring new Board Test Insight and Throughput Multiplier capabilities, while manufacturers who need something small can expect our Mini ICT to pack more into the box.

As for servicing our customers, Keysight also works with some of the best experts in the field. We have a cohesive network of channel partners worldwide supporting our solutions with design for test, software development and fixture fabrication for our customers. This ensures rapid test development and deployment by offering our customers a total solution, be it for server, network, cloud computing or automotive electronics.

In 2016, we expect to see even greater adoption in low access embedded test using silicon technology as it continues to go even more mainstream. The electronics manufacturing test industry will be supported by the network and server markets, with customers looking for specific solutions to bring their test coverage and product quality to the next level with better cost efficiencies.
