2016 should be an improved year for the semiconductor industry. The problems associated with currency moves should settle down, and improved numbers from China should lead to better sales. From an education/training perspective, the story is somewhat uncertain though.

The continued advance of technology, coupled with the lack of investment in training since the 2008-2009 financial crisis, argues for a pickup in training, but increased automation and the wave of consolidation in 2015 may offset some of that expectation. It is hard to argue that we can get by with less training: the skills needed in our industry have grown more complicated, not less so.

We believe that the appropriate method to address workforce training in our industry is a combination of face-to-face training and online training. To that end, we continue to develop partnerships with the larger companies to help provide a mix of in-person and online training. We consistently build up our online content, as we see a shift toward more self-study and low-cost methods for workforce training.

Improvements in content creation tools, standards, and methods will help improve the online experience further. While nothing beats sitting face-to-face with a knowledgeable instructor, this approach is not always the most cost-effective. We are pressing forward by adding content to our systems while keeping the price structure low, to provide a compelling story for training your workforce for tomorrow's challenges.
